PC-FASTYPE(tm) Version 3.01 Trendtech Corporation
NEWVER.DOC - Current information about this release.
This new version of PC-FASTYPE (formerly called FAS-TYPE) has a number of
new additions and enhancements that makes the program easy to use, and
typing practice painless. You have your choice of two screen-displayed
keyboards from which to choose to practice typing on. The program has been
redesigned to make it easy to add new keyboards; you can have an image
of the exact keyboard you are learning to type on displayed right in front
of you. The author will consider adding new keyboards upon popular
request.
HIGHLIGHTS of CHANGES in Version 3.01
* This version was developed using Microsoft's QuickBASIC Compiler,
Version 2.01.
* PC-FASTYPE Version 3.01 fixes DOS version usage and color balancing
problems that plagued Version 3.0.
* You have the choice of using either the old-style PC keyboard screen
display or the new IBM Enhanced keyboard style screen display to learn
typing on. This is determinded when you start PC-FASTYPE.
* The menu displays have been improved and are easier to read; more text
accompanies each menu display.
* The sub-menus now hi-light your letter and number choices. Since each
successive selection adds more letters or numbers to your list, those
selections are now hi-lighted for clarification.
* The timing has been improved dramatically. PC-FASTYPE can be run on any
speed computer from the 4.7mHZ 8088 to the 20mHZ 80386 without any change
in the prompting rhythm and timings.
* PC-FASTYPE does NOT alter the computers' clock. The earlier FAS-TYPE
used to reset the clock thus rendering it not usable on PC's attached to
networks. More efficient methods are now used to monitor your typing
speed.
* All lesson files have doubled in size from 6 lines to 12. Duplication of
line selections during a lesson has been eliminated, and the overall
random selection process has been improved.
* Your drill and lesson statistics have been improved. You can now see
your "raw" typing speed in addition to your "computed" speed. Keystroke
counts are displayed in addition to drill counts.
* During a typing session, and after each drill or exercise your highest
typing speed (WPM) is displayed along with your typing statistics for
each drill or lesson. However, your highest WPM is NOT maintained from
session to session.
* Improved lesson handling: instead of PC-FASTYPE "waiting" for you to to
type the "correct" letter (as FAS-TYPE did) the error is noted and you
simply continue typing. However, if you want - you can backspace and
correct the error. The lesson ends when the cursor has passed over all of
the characters displayed in the text panel whether they were typed
incorrectly or not.
* Three different "prompting" rhythms can be selected depending on the typist's
skill level. The Beginner's prompt speed is rather slow; Intermediate typist
prompt speed is just right (even for beginners); and the advanced typist
prompt can turn you into a typing speed demon. These are selectable from the
main menu. The intermediate skill level is automatically selected when you
start PC-FASTYPE.
